‘Leaving a legacy’ means leaving a part of your money or personal possessions to a specific person or charity. It can be as little or as much as you wish. Although PhysCap has received only a small number of legacies over the years, they have been extremely helpful in funding specific projects and for our general use.

We would always recommend you consult a solicitor when you are considering changing your Will in any way. However, the following wording may be useful if you are considering leaving a gift to PhysCap:

Cash legacy:
I give £ ( pounds) to PhysCap, Registered Charity Number 51244 and I declare that a receipt given by a person who appears to be a proper officer of the charity shall be a discharge to my Executors or Trustees.

This gift shall not fail if at my death the charity has changed its name or ceased to exist or has amalgamated with another charity or has become the subject of a scheme and my executors or trustees shall pay it to the charitable organisation which they consider most nearly fulfils the objects I intended to benefit.

Gift of specific property or item:
I give [name of property or clear description of item you wish to give to PhysCap, Registered Charity Number 51244 and I declare that a receipt given by a person who appears to be a proper officer of the charity shall be a discharge to my Executors or Trustees.

This gift shall not fail if at my death the charity has changed its name or ceased to exist or has amalgamated with another charity or has become the subject of a scheme and my executors or trustees shall pay it to the charitable organisation which they consider most nearly fulfils the objects I intended to benefit.

Gift of residuary estate:
I give the residue of my estate to PhysCap, Registered Charity Number 51244 and I declare that a receipt given by a person who appears to be a proper officer of the charity shall be a discharge to my Executors or Trustees.
